Hi, I’m Sarah!
I am a portrait photographer based in St. Louis. I’m enthusiastic about taking the real and the raw in life to create something beautiful. Photographs aren’t just images to me; they’re storytellers. I love helping families tell their stories through a series of curated photographs.
My husband Karl and I have been married since 2015. Karl is from Kenya, and when his 100+ year old grandfather back home first saw a picture of me, he gave me the name Kavilali. The word “kavilali” is from Karl’s tribal language, Kamba, and it means “something precious and valuable in a small package”. Kavilali is a word that embodies my vision for my business; in the tiny pixels of a photograph, I want to see the valuable and precious in life. I’m especially passionate about capturing the kavilali in the first moments of a baby’s life, from that cute baby bump to those first days of life.
When I’m not taking photographs, I can be found playing with flowers in a floral studio or cooking whole-food, allergy friendly meals in my kitchen. I also enjoy writing, studying and teaching the Bible, and playing with my ginger-haired cat Henry.
