Aidan “Chickpea” Tyree entered the world on a Friday evening in January. His parents are clearly smitten with him, and there’s more than enough love to spread around this little family. Reach for the stars, little one; the universe is the limit!
Welcome Luella | Lemonade Newborn Session | St. Louis Birth Photographer
Baby Luella was four days past her due date, and I had a feeling she was going to make her appearance that night. My camera bag was ready to go in my office. I checked the phone to make sure the ringer was on. No amount of preparation could have helped me arrive on time for this birth though.
Just after midnight dad called. Mom was in labor. Twenty minutes later, baby was born into dad’s arms. This sweet little girl was so eager to enter the world that not even the midwives made it to her birth, let alone the birth photographer! After a whirlwind labor & delivery, the parents decided to have a newborn photo session instead.
Any birth photographer who has missed a birth will tell you that it is a big bummer. Unlike a canceled session due to a sick kid or a rainy day, a missed birth session cannot be rescheduled, and clients miss out on those once-in-a-lifetime photos. However, birth is unpredictable!
These clients took their precipitous birth in stride and were so delightful to work with when I snapped some newborn photos a couple days later. I like to call this session a “lemonade newborn session” because the bitterness of missing the birth was made sweet by taking some daylight photos with the whole family.
Luella’s big sister has a big personality, and she loved participating in the photo shoot while showing her sister some love. She even pulled out her own little toy camera and started taking photos! We all got a kick out of my little protege.

It's Another Girl! ~ St. Louis Birth Photographer
It was a calm labor and joyous delivery in a darkened suite of Mercy Birthing Center. It was my first time with the title “birth photographer” and my first time witnessing the birth of a baby.
This doula and mom of four breathed through her contractions in the tub, with her husband applying essential oils to her back to aid labor. Between contractions she laughed with her husband and doula and talked gently with her two oldest daughters.
“It’s a girl!” was declared just before midnight on that snowy day in February. Baby girl joined three older sisters and one older brother, expanding this joyful clan into a family of seven.
The joy of welcoming a new child into the world will never get old for this couple.
I loved seeing how each member of the family connected with their little girl in a unique way.
What a dreamy entrance into the world of birth photography. I’m hooked! It’s more than just the individual photos; birth photography is about telling the story of a new human coming into this world.
